Fifteen minutes before midnight. Really I had intended on writing this morning but Life Turned on a Dime. My brother-in-law, my husband’s brother, had a massive stroke yesterday. We woke up this morning and drove two and a half hours to the hospital. The rest of the day was spent at the hospital doing all the things you do when a loved one has a medical crisis. So no writing.
But I made a commitment and I’m keeping it! Even if no one ever reads a word I’m writing every single day for the next 98 days!
Our family is no stranger to medical emergencies. I wish we were. Sadly, my brother-in-law has lived the last 20+ years with some major autoimmune issues. It’s been a lot of rough years and now this. He’s not even 60 and he’s had a massive stroke.
Another family member is having a major life crisis and I had hoped to be 100% available to them. Life Turned on a Dime for them a few days ago. Fortunately, they understand this situation and we can all support each other during this time. No one ever plans on having a life crisis.
I spoke to my birthfather today and come to find out he, too, is having some medical issues. My family – my husband, my daughter’s and my grandkids are going to meet my birth father and the rest of the family in October. I told him today that if I needed to come sooner I would. I’m just hoping it won’t have to be this week – but I’d be on the next flight if need be.
I’m NOT going to miss meeting my father face to face. God willing we will be able to meet.
As far as my birthfather knew, he had two children – my half brother and sister. One day he gets a phone call and Life Turned on a Dime – he had a new child.
He took it unbelievably well and he’s been really wonderful about the whole thing; which makes me very fortunate. So many reunions don’t go well. It’s the one thing in my life that’s actually gone fairly smooth. How weird is that?
If you’re at all like me, you’re wondering where does the phrase – Turn on a Dime come from anyhow. I looked it up and I wasn’t able to find an exact origin for the phrase, but I did find this which I thought was interesting.
Origin of Turn on a Dime
We’ll see what tomorrow brings. I’m just hoping that it will be awhile before Life Turns on a Dime again.
Please keep my brother-in-law and our family in your thoughts and prayers. They all need them.
Blessings to you dear reader! Thanks for dropping by.
